Candias Smith is the Founder and Designer behind Iris 1965, a modern jewelry brand based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her timeless work is both bold and soft and we are lucky to have a few cherished pieces. Thank you for your time, Candias!
Tell us about yourself, how did your brand come to fruition?
New Orleans Native, mommas girl. I love to sing, cook, dance, and of course create. My brand is dedicated to my mother who always speaks life into me! It all started with me making rings for myself with glue, Etsy ring blanks, and healing crystals. I received so many compliments I decided to take up metalsmithing and start a business! Now here we are! This is only the beginning for Iris 1956.
Describe your ideal day.
Waking up about 9 am, drink a cup of tea, for lunch soak in the sun with a book at city park. If it's crawfish season I’ll bring that too, watch the sunset at dusk. In bed by 9 -Netflix and chill.
How has creativity influenced your life?
It's taught me so much patience and to trust myself.

Is there anything that you collect?
No, well vintage clothing if that counts!
Have you picked up some surprising hobbies/rituals during this increased time at home?
Yes! Wax carving which I’ve desired to do for a while now.
Any advice for creative entrepreneurs looking to start a business?
My advice would be not to despise humble beginnings.
